Choose What You Want
First you need to choose what you want. Do you want something to give you the look and feel of a actual movie theater. Or do you just want something for the living room that is going to give you a nice movie experience. Either can be very satisfying, you just have to choose which one you want. Your budget will also play a huge role in this choice also. Going the full blown home theater route can get rather expensive.
Picking An AVR or Processor
If you are going to place together a home theater for the living room, I would recommend a excellent quality receiver. If you are going to go that route a would look for a receiver that supports high definition multimedia interface (HDMI). As this is the best media out right now. If you are going for the full blown theater you will defiantly want to by a home theater processor. This will be leaps and bounds surpass than the avr but will cost considerably more.
Picking a Amp( only needed if you buy a processor instead of a receiver)
If you buy a processor you will have to buy an amp also. The amp you need to buy will have a lot to do with the size of your room. As a standard you would want to buy a five channel amp but if you have a considerably better room you might want to go with a seven channel amp. Either way you want to make sure you have enough amp to fill the room with rich full sound that you can feel.
Picking out Speakers
You will need to determine what speakers you will need. For a living room and or for wife approval you might opt to go for a nice set of book shelve speakers. Where in a full blown home theater you will probably want to go with tower speakers for a better sound. Either setup will require the use of a excellent sub-woofer. Here are sounds in today’s movies you just can’t hear without a sub-woofer.
Picking a Source
The best video source out right now is either hd dvd or blue ray. But you will have to choose which one you want. Both have the same picture capability but here are only certain movies on hd dvd and only certain movies on blue ray. To be able to watch all movies in high definition you would have to buy both units. At nominal amount until they come out with a universal player.
Picking a TV
You will have to choose what size and what you are willing to pay. In my opinion LCD TVs have the best picture but start to get very pricey above 42″. If you want to go above 42″ but don’t want to pay through the nose. You might want to go with the plasma.
Conclusion
Now that you’ve got everything all you need to do is hook everything up and initiation enjoying. I hope that I was a help in your quest for home entertainment.
